DESCRIPTION

An HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server configured in UEFI Boot Mode with multiple network adapters may take a longer than expected amount of time to complete the boot process when PXE settings are in the default state. On the HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server, the System ROM will enable both iPv4 and iPv6 PXE Boot for all available network ports by default. Additionally, the default UEFI Boot Order places Network Boot higher in the boot priority over other bootable devices such as Hard Disks or USB Devices. Therefore, when multiple network adapters are installed, the System ROM will attempt both IPv4 and IPv6 PXE boot for all network adapter ports before attempting to boot from other media.

This does not occur when the HP ProLiant DL580 Gen 8 server is configured in Legacy Boot Mode.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server configured with multiple network adapters when configured in UEFI Boot Mode.

RESOLUTION

To improve the boot time on an HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server configured with multiple network adapters when configured in UEFI Boot Mode, use the following workaround(s):

Use the F11 One Time Boot Option to select the specific bootable device. This will skip the normal UEFI Boot Order process and avoid the Network Boot attempts.

OR

Configure the UEFI Boot Order to place the network boot options lower in the boot order. In the F9 System Utilities select --> System Configuration BIOS/Platform Configuration. Refer to the UEFI System Utilities Guide for more details.

OR

Configure the PXE Boot policies to disable iPv4 or iPv6 boot if both are not required. In the F9 System Utilities select --> System Configuration BIOS/Platform Configuration. Refer to the UEFI System Utilities Guide for more details.

OR

Disable Network boot on Network devices in PCIe slots via the Network setup options available from each network device in the F9 System Utilities System Configuration Menu. Refer to the network documentation for more details.
