Original Document Release.

On any HPE ProLiant Server running SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 11 SP3 or SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 11 SP4, and configured with any of the network adapters listed in the scope section below, the HPE Intel AHS agent deployment fails with an “Update returned error” when the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) is updated using the online method with the inbox driver for igb. In this instance, the AHS agent installation is complete, but ocsbbd (AHS daemon) fails to start because the inbox driver does not support the AHS agent.

This occurs with any version of AHS agent and any version of the Service Pack for ProLiant when the SPP update is done with the inbox driver for igb under SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 11 SP3.

When this occurs, the following error will be displayed in the deployment results page:

As part of the AHS agent rpm installation, the ocsbbd AHS agent will be started. If the inbox igb drivers are being used by the network interfaces, the ocsbbd daemon fails to start since the inbox driver does not support the AHS agent. As a result, Smart Update Manager (SUM) gets an error from the AHS agent rpm, and displays the update as failed.

NOTE: HPE Intel AHS agent (hp-ocsbbd) is not applicable to HP ProLiant Gen10 servers. Ensure the component is not selected in SUM when deploying using SPP in online mode.

RESOLUTION

This is functioning as designed. As part of the AHS agent rpm installation, the ocsbbd AHS agent will be started. If the inbox igb drivers are being used by the network interfaces, the ocsbbd daemon fails to start since the inbox driver does not support the AHS agent.

This error may be seen with any SPP version, if the inbox igb driver is in use before the update process. The error message can be safely ignored. The online SPP update process itself will update the igb driver. However, this will not be done until a reboot or until the user manually unloads the old igb module and loads the new igb module. Even though the error message is displayed, the AHS RPM installation is successful, and once the SPP online update process updates the igb driver and reboots the server, the ocsbbd [AHS daemon] also will start successfully.
